Now that Connected has officially released, I thought I would share some of the background of its creation. The other day I showed my daughter, Rosalind, the book cover. Naturally, she asked the names of each character on the cover. Then she pointed to Roz and said, “I think I like that one the best. She has the same name as me!”
Truth is, I’ve been working on the novel a LONG time. Long before she was born, in fact. And before you look at me strange, no I didn’t name my daughter after one of the characters in my book. That’s kinda weird. I actually named her (and the book character) after the female heroine in my favorite Shakespearean comedy, As You Like It. 🙂 Tommy is named after my grandfather on my mother’s side, but Em (Emily), I’m not really sure where that name came from. I wanted to choose a popular modern name, almost like a female version of Joe. Also, I was trying desperately to avoid the ever growing trend of stupid character names I’m seeing in all the books I’ve read as of late.
What do you think of the names? Please drop me a line, I’d love to chat. 🙂
